Jane's young son Jack has just completed his treatment, and now they're looking forward to getting back to normal
'My story is about my little boy Jack who is now 5 years old and has just got through 2 years of chemotherapy. He's recently had the all-clear from T cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. It all started very quickly and was extremely scary. He was suffering with a chest infection, or so I thought, for about 2 weeks. During this time I took him to the doctors twice, and he was prescribed antibiotics.
'One night (the worst night of my life) we were all in bed and I could hear Jack's breathing becoming increasingly noisy and very worrying. I decided to get out of bed to wake him up but as I did he started crying and calling me and was desperately gasping for breath. We called an ambulance, which rushed him to hospital. That's where we found out that he had lymphoma and that it was in his chest, pressing on his airway, so that when he lay down at night it was suppressing his breathing.
'Jack was put on 6 months' intensive chemotherapy and a further 18 months of maintenance therapy. We had to take him to hospital every 4 weeks for blood tests and to get his tablets.
'But he's just had his end-of-treatment scan and now, hopefully, we'll only be at the hospital every few months for check-ups. I thank God and the doctors and nurses for helping make him better and I will try and get on with daily life and treat him as normally as possible.'
